Mohican Artist
Terri O'Connor

I am a Tribal member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican tribe, located in northern Wisconsin.

I currently reside in  Poynette, WI with my husband and our 4 dogs. We have lived in this area for about 14 years and we love it here.

I am of Native American / German descent.  I am the 5th child of 9 siblings.  I spent half of my childhood living on the reservation and from there I found my inspiration for art.   My heritage definitely has had a large impact on my art.   When I attend the yearly Pow-Wow's I usually photograph allot of my subjects and from there I begin my work .  I have dabbled in oil painting, my Dad actually got me starting in it, but my true passion is the effect of black and white.  I really enjoy working with pencil or pen in my drawings.  I love the effect of how shadows play such an important part in making a drawing come to life.

As a continuing learning artist I have worked on many projects.  I've designed many items for my Tribe including note cards for the Library/ Museum to document our tribes artifacts.  I worked on the 1st billboard signs for the bingo/casino hall,  I've designed logo patches for my tribes DNR/Fish and Game Wardens.   I've also done numerous personal portraits of everything from family portraits, child portraits,  animal portraits and even house and truck portraits.

My most recent work is on permanent display at the McKenzie Center in Poynette. It is a picture of a bison and her calf, it was used for display and raffle for the 2008 Maple Sugar Fest.  I was very honored to be a part of this event.

I continue to work on my art every chance I get and am always looking for new challenges.
Hope you enjoy my artwork and visit me at my website: Native Turtle

May Mother Earth always inspire you as she has me.
