Eva Jean Bowman

Eva Jean Bowman was born in Keshena, Wisconsin on December 23, 1945.  She is an enrolled member of the Stockbridge-Munsee and Menominee tribe. Her family lived in Milwaukee and had a summer home in the town of Red Springs, Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation, in northeast Wisconsin. She has one daughter and four grandchildren.

 
In 1974, Evan began her career in early childhood education by working in the Native American Headstart Program.  She earned an Associate Certificate in Child Development from Winnebago Community College.  Since 1989, when she returned to her home in the Stockbridge-Munsee Community, she has continued her education and career as lead teacher and then director of the Stockbridge-Munsee Headstart Program.  In 1991, she was selected as Runner-up for Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Headstart Directors Association.
